This page tells you what we collect when you use this site, in plain words.
What we don't collect
There's no account to create and no log-in. Unless you run a Youth Hub, we never ask for your name, your email address or anything else that identifies you. Searching for a hub leaves no trace that points back to you.
What we do collect
When you visit a page, we count the visit. We record which page it was and the date. These counts tell us and the hubs which pages are being used.
When you tap a hub's phone number, text link, email or website, we count the tap. We record which hub and the date. We never record your number or your device.
When you search, we keep the search term and the place it resolved to. This shows us which towns need hubs that don't have one yet. If you tap "Use my location", your phone or computer tells us where you are so we can find hubs near you. We keep that position only rounded to about a kilometre, which shows the area but not your street or your home. The web address of your results page holds the position rounded to about 100 metres, so you can bookmark it or send it to someone.
When you report something wrong on a hub's page, we keep what you wrote (if you wrote anything), which hub it was about, and the date. A report is about the hub, not about you. When you send a suggestion from a town page, we keep what you wrote, which town it was sent from, and the date.
To stop anyone flooding our forms, we create an anonymous code for each browser. It's made by scrambling your internet address, your browser type and a random token together. The result identifies no person, can't be reversed, and is never shown to anyone. We store it with each report or suggestion. If too many disruptive messages come from one source, our system simply stops listening to it.
The random token is kept in your browser as a cookie. This site sets one cookie, and only when you send a report, a suggestion or a feature request. If you only search and read, we set no cookie at all. It lasts a year and holds nothing about you, only a random string of letters and numbers. You can delete it in your browser settings whenever you like. Our hosting company also sets a short security cookie that helps block automated attacks on the site. It lasts 30 minutes and holds nothing about you.
We also hold the work name and work email of staff who run Youth Hubs, taken from public pages or given to us by the hubs, so we can ask them to keep their pages accurate.
How long we keep it
- Visit and tap counts: kept as monthly totals indefinitely; the individual records behind them will be deleted after 13 months.
- Search terms, and the rounded positions from "Use my location": 13 months.
- Report and suggestion text: until we've acted on it, then 12 months.
- Hub staff contacts: for as long as the hub is listed, or until deleted using the form below.
- The token cookie in your browser: a year from the first time you send a report, suggestion or feature request, unless you delete it sooner. The hosting company's security cookie: 30 minutes.
