What to bring on your first visit

Honestly? Just yourself. Nobody is turned away for arriving empty-handed. You don't need to dress up, you don't need documents or ID, and you don't need to have anything figured out. Turning up as you are is enough.

That said, a few things can make the first visit go further:

• Your phone. Handy for looking things up together and for photographing anything useful, like a poster on the wall or a page from a leaflet.
• Your CV, if you have one. Printed or on your phone, either is fine. If you don't have one, that's one of the first things they'll help you make.
• Log-in details for any job sites or your Universal Credit account, if you have them. Useful if you want help with applications on the day.
• A rough idea of your availability. Knowing which days and hours you could work makes job searching quicker. If you don't know yet, they'll help you think it through.
• Your questions. Anything you've been wondering about work, training or money is fair game. Type them into your phone on the way there so you don't forget.
